Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Column Shift)

Tools Required: J 41352  Steering Column Holding Fixture

  1. Install the upper trim cover (2) onto the steering column.
  2. Screw the 2 TORX® head screws (1) into the upper trim cover (2).

    Tighten: 

    Tighten the 2 TORX® head screws to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in)

  3. Install the shift lever seal (2) onto the shift lever assembly (4).
  4. Install the shift lever assembly (4) onto the upper trim cover (1).
  5. Install the shift lever screw (3) into the shift lever assembly (4).

    Tighten: 

    Tighten the shift lever screw to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in) 

  6. Slide the shift lever seal (2) down the shift lever (4).
  7. The shift lever seal must seat in the trim covers.

  8. Install the trim cover protector (1) onto the lower trim cover (2).

  9. Install the lower trim cover onto the upper trim cover.
  10. Match the tab slots on the lower trim cover with the locking tabs on the upper trim cover.
  11. Tilt the lower trim cover up.
  12. Slide the lower trim cover forward until the locking tabs snap into the tab slots.

  13. Screw the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) into the lower trim cover (2).

    Tighten: 

    Tighten the 2 pan head tapping screws to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in) 

  14. Install the tilt lever into the lower trim cover (2).

  15. Remove J 42640  from the lower trim cover of the steering column.
