Intake Camshaft, Follower, And Valve Lash Adjuster (Unit Repair) Installation: Installation

  1. Lubricate valve lash adjusters.
  2. Install valve lash adjusters into their bores in cylinder head.

  3. Lubricate valve tips with engine oil supplement.

    IMPORTANT:  Used roller followers must be returned to the original position on the camshaft. If the camshaft is being replaced, the roller followers actuated by the camshaft must also be replaced.

  4. Position roller followers on tip of valve stem and on lash adjuster. Lubricate roller followers with engine oil supplement.

    NOTE: Set crankshaft at 60° Before Top-Dead Center to prevent valve to piston contact.
  5. Set intake camshaft on top of roller followers in camshaft bearing journals. Lubricate with engine oil supplement.
  6. Install camshaft bearing caps in correct order and hand start camshaft cap bolts.

  7. The timing chain sprocket alignment notch on the camshaft should be oriented to the eleven o'clock position.
  8. Tighten camshaft bearing cap bolts in increments of three turns until they are seated.

    Torque: 

    Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolts: 10 N.m (89 in-lbs)

  9. Apply a 5 mm (13/64 in.) bead of Permatex® Anerobic Gasket Maker 51813 to rear intake camshaft bearing cap.
  10. Install rear intake camshaft bearing cap bolts.

Torque: 

Intake Camshaft Rear Bearing Cap Bolts: 25 N.m (18 ft-lbs)
