Balance Shaft Chain Replacement: Removal

Disconnect negative battery cable.
Remove timing chain assembly. Refer to TIMING CHAIN REPLACEMENT .
Remove balance shaft drive chain tensioner bolts.

Remove balance shaft drive chain tensioner.

Remove adjustable balance shaft chain guide bolts.
Remove adjustable balance shaft chain guide.

Remove small balance shaft chain guide bolts.
Remove small balance shaft chain guide.

Remove upper balance shaft chain guide bolts.
Remove upper balance shaft chain guide.

IMPORTANT: Push on chain between water pump and crankshaft sprockets so that all slack is between these two points. This will allow easier removal of chain.
Remove balance shaft drive chain.
Remove crankshaft drive sprocket.

NOTE: Replace balance shaft drive chain guide if wear exceeds 1.12 mm (0.045 in.)
Inspect balance shaft drive chain guides for cracking or wear.
NOTE: Replace balance shaft drive chain tensioner shoe if wear exceeds 1.12 mm (0.045 in.).
Inspect balance shaft drive chain tensioner shoe for excessive wear.
Inspect balance shaft drive chain and sprockets for wear sprocket and teeth for chips or damage to chain links.
