Possible Causes

An AIR BAG warning light that is continuously illuminated may be caused by SAS control module malfunction, instrument cluster (print plate) malfunction or CAN communication network malfunction.
- Verify Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in SAS control module
If DTCs have been recorded in SAS control module memory, perform appropriate diagnostic test. See FAULT CODE IDENTIFICATION table. If DTCs have not been recorded in SAS control module memory, inspect instrument cluster. If instrument cluster is normal, go to next step. If instrument cluster is not normal, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.NOTE: Shake wiring harness and connector while performing the following tests to determine if intermittent malfunction exists. If problem is detected, ensure all connectors, terminals and wiring harness are properly connected. - Inspect AIR BAG warning light circuit in instrument cluster
Turn ignition to ON position and observe AIR BAG warning light. If AIR BAG warning light goes out, inspect SAS control module connectors and terminals. Repair as necessary. If AIR BAG warning light does not go out, go to next step - Inspect SAS control module
Turn ignition to LOCK position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access SAS control module and disconnect connectors. See SAS CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and SAS control module connector No. 1, terminal No. 1D. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage is present, replace SAS control module. If battery voltage is not present, inspect battery power supply and ground circuits.
