Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Aztek and 2003 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the rear wheel.
  3. Remove the brake caliper and support the brake caliper. Do not disconnect the brake hose. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes .
  4. Use a utility stand in order to support the lower control arm. See Figure.
  5. Disconnect the height sensor link from the lower control arm as necessary.
  6. Disconnect the speed sensor harness connector.

  7. Disconnect the speed sensor harness from the control arm.
  8. Remove the speed sensor connector mounting bracket.
  9. Remove the stabilizer shaft link from the lower control arm. Refer to STABILIZER SHAFT LINK REPLACEMENT (ALL WHEEL DRIVE) .
  10. Disconnect the shock absorber from the lower control arm. Refer to SHOCK ABSORBER REPLACEMENT (ALL WHEEL DRIVE) .
  11. Loosen the lower control arm-to-knuckle nut. See Figure.
  12. Use the J 41820 in order to disconnect the ball joint from the knuckle.
  13. Remove the lower ball joint nut. See Figure.
  14. Use the utility stand in order to lower the lower control arm and relieve the coil spring tension.
  15. Remove the utility stand.
  16. Carefully remove the coil spring (2). See Figure.
