Rear Axle Replacement - Fwd: Removal

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Remove the 4 bolts (3,4) and the 2 clips (5) in order to separate the following components from the rear axle:
- The brake pipes
- The brake hoses
- The park brake cables
- The wheel speed sensor wires, if equipped
- Remove the 2 backing plates. Refer to DRUM BRAKE BACKING PLATE .
- Remove the stabilizer shaft. Refer to STABILIZER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - FWD or STABILIZER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - AWD .
- Support the rear axle with a block of wood and a jack.
- Remove the following components in order to separate the 2 shock absorbers from the rear axle:
- The 2 bolts.
- The 2 nuts.
- The 2 retainers.
- Remove the 2 bolts (3) and the 2 nuts in order to remove the rear axle (1).
- If necessary, use a press in order to remove the rear axle bushings.
