Lower Control Arm Replacement - AWD: Installation

  1. If you are replacing the lower control arm (15), copy the match marks from the old components to the new components. See Figure.
  2. Raise and support the lower control arm with a jack.
    NOTE: Do not tighten the nuts or the bolts. The weight of the vehicle must be on the tire and wheel assemblies before tightening the nuts and the bolts.
  3. Install the bolt (3) and the nut (1) in order to retain the lower control arm to the crossmember. See Figure.
  4. Install the 3 bolts (10,11,12) and the lower control arm to the body. See Figure. Tighten the bolts to 65 N.m (47.9 lb ft).
  5. Install the nut (8) and the bolt (7) in order to retain the lower control arm to the knuckle. See Figure.
  6. Align the match marks and install the cam bolt (6). See Figure.
  7. Align the match marks and install the cam (5) and the nut (4). See Figure.
  8. Install the bolt and the nut in order to retain the shock absorber to the lower control arm.
  9. Install the nut and the stabilizer shaft link stud to the lower control arm. See Figure.
  10. Install the 2 bolts in order to retain the park brake cable to the lower control arm. Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N.m (47.79 lb in).
  11. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Bounce the rear of the vehicle in order to stabilize the suspension.
  14. With the weight of the vehicle on the tire and wheel assemblies, tighten the nut (1) and the bolt (3). See Figure. Tighten the nut and the bolt to 74 N.m (54.6 lb ft).
  15. Tighten the nut and the bolt on that retain the shock absorber to the lower control arm. Tighten the nut and the bolt to 140 N.m (103.3 lb ft).
  16. Align the match marks and tighten the nut (4) the bolt (6). See Figure. Tighten the nut and the bolt to 74 N.m (54.6 lb ft).
  17. Tighten the nut (8) and the bolt (7) See Figure. Tighten the nut and the bolt to 74 N.m (54.6 lb ft).
  18. Tighten the nut and the stabilizer shaft link stud. Tighten the nut to 44 N.m (32.5 lb ft).
  19. Measure the wheel alignment.
