Coil Spring Replacement - AWD: Installation

  1. Install the jounce bumper (5) to the shock absorber (4). See Figure.
  2. Install the spring (3). See Figure. Position the lower tip of the coil on the gap in the lower spring seat.
  3. Use the J 45400 or equivalent, in order to compress the spring. See Figure.
  4. Install the spring upper insulator (2). See Figure.
  5. Install the shock absorber lower insulator (6). See Figure.
    NOTE: The right rear shock mount is the mirror image of the left rear shock mount.
  6. Install the shock absorber upper mount. Position the front stud 23.7 degrees (a) from the centerline of the lower bolt hole.

  7. Install the shock absorber upper insulator. See Figure.
  8. Install the shock absorber upper insulator retainer. See Figure.
  9. Install the upper nut.
  10. Verify the position of the shock absorber upper mount is correct.
  11. Remove the spring and shock absorber assembly from the J 45400 or equivalent.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  12. Use a wrench in order to hold the piston rod. Tighten the nut. Tighten the nut to 56 N.m (41.3 lb ft).
  13. Install the spring and shock absorber assembly. Refer to SHOCK ABSORBER REPLACEMENT - AWD .
