Diagnostic System Check (Engine Cooling)

- Install a scan tool. Does the scan tool power up? If so, proceed to next step. If not, see TEST D: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES article in COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Turn on the ignition, with the engine off. Attempt to establish communication with the instrument cluster and the powertrain control module. Does the scan tool communicate with the control modules? If so, proceed to next step. If not, see TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES article in COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Select the powertrain control module display DTCs function on the scan tool. Does the scan tool display any DTCs? If so, proceed to next step. If not, see SYMPTOMS (ENGINE COOLING) .
- Does the scan tool display any DTCs which begin with a "U"? If so, see TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES article in COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If not, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
