Backing Plate Removal

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  2. Remove the brake drum. See REAR BRAKE DRUM  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove the brake shoes. See REAR BRAKE SHOES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove the universal spring. See Figure .
  3. Remove the wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the backing plate. Remove the rear wheel hub. See appropriate REAR SUSPENSION article in SUSPENSION. Remove the backing plate.
