Backing Plate Removal

- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove the brake drum. See REAR BRAKE DRUM under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove the brake shoes. See REAR BRAKE SHOES under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove the universal spring. See Figure .
- Remove the wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDERS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect the parking brake cable from the backing plate. Remove the rear wheel hub. See appropriate REAR SUSPENSION article in SUSPENSION. Remove the backing plate.
