Removal Procedure

Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Remove the outer tie rod retaining nut.

NOTE: Do not attempt to disconnect a steering linkage joint by driving a wedge between the joint and the attached part. Seal damage may result which will cause premature failure of the joint.

Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using J 24319-B . See Special Tools and Equipment .

Loosen the jam nut (1) and remove the outer tie rod (2) from the inner tie rod (3).
Do not reuse the jam nut.
Inspect the shaft for bent or damaged threads.
Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle.
