Axle Shafts Boot Cover: Installation

- Insert NEW clamps into the original halfshaft seal cover (if you are reusing the original halfshaft seal cover. Slide the halfshaft seal cover onto the halfshaft assembly, starting at the outboard (CV joint) end. See Fig 1.
- Align the inboard clamp on the inboard joint. Align the seal cover seam so the seam is straight. See Fig 2.NOTE: Tighten the seal cover clamp as tight as possible without deforming the retaining clip. Clamps that are not tight enough allow the cover to slide upon the joint. This causes shortened service life.
- Use Band-it Type Tool in order to tighten the inboard seal cover clamp. See Fig 3. Rotate Band-it Type Tool toward the clip in order to bend the band onto the clip. See Fig 4. Pull on the tool's cutting handle in order to cut off the excess band.
- Pound the band flat between the latch tabs. Peen the latch tabs over in order to lock the band into position. Twist the halfshaft seal cover. See Fig 5.
For 2001-2002
- K1500 series = 180 degrees
- K2500/3500 series = 90 degrees
- Position the outboard end of the halfshaft seal cover over the CV joint flat. Use Band-it Type Tool in order to tighten the outboard cover clamp. Rotate Band-it Type Tool toward the clip in order to bend the band onto the clip. See Fig 6. Pull the tool's cutting handle in order to cut off the excess band.
- Pound the band flat between the latch tabs. Peen the latch tabs over in order to lock the band into position. Gather the halfshaft seal cover material at the center. See Figure. Wrap the halfshaft seal cover tightly with the nylon strap provided in the kit.
