Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2003 GMC Envoy XL, 2003 GMC Envoy, and 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If diagnostic system check was not performed, perform ENGINE ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under ON-VEHICLE TESTING. If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step.
  2. Install a scan tool. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the battery voltage parameter in the affected module data list. Or with a DMM, measure the battery voltage at the appropriate circuit of the module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is greater than 9.4 volts, go to step  6 . If voltage is less than 9.4 volts, go to next step.
  3. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the harness connector of the affected module setting DTC B1327. Measure the voltage between the battery positive voltage circuit and ground circuit of the module setting the DTC B1327. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is greater than 9.4 volts, go to step  6 . If voltage is less than 9.4 volts, go to next step.
  4. Test the battery positive voltage circuit of the module setting the code for a high resistance or an open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  8 . If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  5. Test the ground sense circuit of the module setting the code for a high resistance or an open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  8 . If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  6. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the module setting the DTC. If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  8 . If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  7. Replace affected module. Perform setup procedure for affected module if necessary. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  8. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTC's. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running DTC. See CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING DTC  . If DTC is reset, go to step  2 and retest. If DTC is not reset, system is okay.
