Brake Indicator Always On

  1. Did you perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM? If so, go to next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC STARTING POINT - HYDRAULIC BRAKES  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Turn the ignition on, with the engine off. Release the park brake. With a scan tool, observe the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter in the BODY CONTROL MODULE data list. Does the scan tool indicate that the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter is OFF? If so, condition is intermittent. Check for loose or poor connections. If not, go to next step.
  3. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the park brake switch. Turn the ignition on, with the engine off. With a scan tool, observe the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter. Does the scan tool indicate that the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter is OFF? If so, go to step  5 . If not, go to next step.
  4. Test the signal circuit of the park brake switch for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  9 . If not, go to step  6 .
  5. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the park brake switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  9 . If not, go to step  7 .
  6. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the Body Control Module (BCM). Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  9 . If not, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace the park brake switch. See MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace the BCM. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs are complete, go to next step.
  9. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step  2 .
