Park Brake Shoe: Installation

  1. Assemble the park brake shoe to the actuator. Install the park brake shoe and actuator onto the backing plate. Position the park brake shoe, actuator, and backing plate over the rear hub.
  2. Install the park brake cable bracket and the 2 retainers. Tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Install the rear hub. See WHEEL BEARING/HUB REPLACEMENT - REAR in appropriate REAR SUSPENSION article in SUSPENSION. The rear hub, backing plate, park brake cable bracket, and park brake actuator will be installed as an assembly.
  4. Install and connect the rear park brake cable to the bracket at the rear wheel.
  5. Connect the park brake cable return spring to the park brake actuator and bracket at the rear wheel. Install the rear rotor. See BRAKE ROTOR (REAR)  .
  6. Install the rear caliper bracket. See CALIPER BRACKET (REAR)  .
  7. Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Adjust the park brake system. See REAR DRUM PARK BRAKE CABLE  or REAR DISC PARK BRAKE CABLE  . Lower the vehicle.
