Clunking When Accelerating From Coast

NOTE: The symptom is a clunking noise present when accelerating from coast to drive under load.
  1. Check for a loose axle shaft to hub assembly nut. Is the axle shaft nut loose? If yes, proceed to next step. If no, go to step  3 .
  2. Tighten the axle shaft to hub assembly nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . When completed, the system is okay.
  3. Check for a damaged inner CV joint. Is the inner CV joint damaged? If yes, proceed to next step. If no, the system is okay.
  4. Replace the inner CV joint. See AXLE SHAFT INNER JOINT & BOOT  under OVERHAUL. When completed, the system is okay.
