Axle Shaft Tripot Joint (Inner Joint)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The tri-pot joint is made with the tripot design without an over-extension limitation retainer. The joint is constructed as follows for vehicles that are equipped with an automatic transmission:
- The left front axle shaft has a female spline. The female spline installs over a stub shaft that protrudes from the transaxle.
- The right front axle shaft has a male spline. It uses barrel type snap rings in order to interlock with the transaxle gears.
