Removal (1500 Series Utility Without 4-Wheel Steering)

- Release the park brake.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
- Relieve the tension from the park brake cable by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and removing the cable from the equalizer bar.
- Remove the park brake cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.
- Remove the rear park brake cable end from the park brake actuator lever.
- Remove the rotor. See BRAKE ROTOR .
- Remove the axle shaft. See AXLE SHAFTS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in the appropriate DIFFERENTIALS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
- Remove the park brake shoe. See PARK BRAKE SHOES .
- Remove the backing plate nuts.
- Remove the backing plate from axle housing flange.
