Installation (Rear - All With 4-Wheel Steering)

CAUTION: When lifting the vehicle do not allow the jack to touch the rear steering gear. If the jack touches the rear steering gear you may damage the gear or the rack and pinion boots. If the boots are damaged replace the rack and pinion boot.
NOTE: Whenever the brake rotor has been separated from the wheel bearing flange, clean any rust or foreign material from the mating surface of the rotor and flange with the J-42450 hub cleaning kit. Failure to do this may result in increased lateral runout of the rotor and brake pulsation.
  1. Use the Wheel Hub Resurfacing Kit (J-42450-A) to clean all rust and contaminants from the mating surface of the hub flange.
  2. Use the Rotor Resurfacing Kit (J-41013) to clean all rust and contaminants from the inside diameter of the hat section of the brake rotor to prevent any foreign material from getting between the brake rotor and the hub flange.
  3. Align the rotor to its original position on the hub, if applicable.
  4. Install the rotor by slowly turning the rotor while pushing the rotor towards the axle. See Figure.
  5. If the brake rotor was removed and installed as part of a brake system repair, measure the assembled Lateral Runout (LRO) of the brake rotor to ensure optimum performance of the disc brakes. See BRAKE ROTOR ASSEMBLED LATERAL RUNOUT (LRO) MEASUREMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
  6. If the brake rotor assembled LRO measurement exceeds the specification, bring the LRO to within specifications.
  7. Install the brake caliper and the brake caliper mounting bracket as an assembly to the vehicle.
  8. Perform the following procedure before installing the 2 brake caliper bracket mounting bolts:
    • Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    • Clean the threads of the bolts with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
    • Apply Threadlocker (GM P/N 12345493) to the threads of the bolts.
  9. Install the 2 brake caliper bracket mounting bolts. See Figure. Tighten the 2 brake caliper bracket mounting bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  10. Install the quarter shaft shield. See Figure.
  11. Install the quarter shaft shield nut and the bolt. Tighten the quarter shaft shield nut and the bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. With the engine OFF gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of it's travel distance.
  15. Slowly release the brake pedal.
  16. Wait 15 seconds then repeat steps  14- 15 until a firm pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
