Removal (Rear - All Pickup Except 1500 Series Without 4-Wheel Steering)

CAUTION:
When lifting the vehicle do not allow the jack to touch the rear steering gear. If the jack touches the rear steering gear you may damage the gear or the rack and pinion boots. If the boots are damaged replace the rack and pinion boot.
- Inspect the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir. See Figure.
- If the brake fluid level is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.
- If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, remove brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
- Inspect the brake caliper operation. See HYDRAULIC BRAKE COMPONENT OPERATION VISUAL INSPECTION under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
- Remove the brake caliper from the brake caliper mounting bracket and support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire or equivalent. Do not disconnect the hydraulic brake hose from the brake caliper. See BRAKE CALIPER .
- Inspect the brake caliper assembly. See BRAKE CALIPER INSPECTION under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
- Remove the disc brake pads from the brake caliper mounting bracket. See Figure.
- Remove and discard the anti-rattle clips from the brake caliper mounting bracket.
