Installation (Rear - Utility)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Yukon, 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, and 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the anti-rattle clips to the brake caliper bracket.
    2. NOTE: Proper orientation of the brake pads is critical for proper pad wear. If working on a 2WD 1500 series Utility, install the inboard rear pad to the brake caliper bracket with the longer pad end chamfer facing down. For all other Utilities, install the brake pads to the brake caliper.
  2. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper bracket.
  3. Install the brake caliper to the mounting bracket using NEW bolts. See BRAKE CALIPER .
  4. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance.
  7. Slowly release the brake pedal.
  8. Wait 15 seconds, then repeat steps  6- 7 until a firm pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
  9. Fill the master cylinder reservoir to the proper level with clean brake fluid.
  10. Burnish the brakes pads and rotors as necessary. See BURNISHING PADS & ROTORS under SERVICING.
