Master Cylinder: Removal

CAUTION: Avoid spilling brake fluid onto painted surfaces, electrical connections, wiring, or cables. Brake fluid will damage painted surfaces and cause corrosion to electrical components. If any brake fluid comes in contact with painted surfaces, immediately flush the area with water. If any brake fluid comes in contact with electrical connections, wiring, or cables, use a clean shop cloth to wipe away the fluid.
  1. Apply the park brake.
  2. Disconnect the brake pipes from the master cylinder.
    3. NOTE: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting ends in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
  3. Plug the open brake pipe ends.
  4. Remove the master cylinder nuts. See Figure .
  5. Remove the master cylinder from the vehicle. See Figure .
  6. Drain the master cylinder reservoir of all brake fluid.
