Installation (Front)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Sierra, 2002 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2002 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Do not use anti-seize type products on the caliper V-ways and/or anchor plate guide way surfaces.
  1. Apply high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the caliper and the anchor plate sliding surfaces. Do not apply lubricant to the brake pad hardware.
  2. Install the brake pads to the caliper. See BRAKE PADS  .
  3. Install the caliper assembly to the mounting plate.
  4. Inspect the brake caliper/mounting plate wear adjustment. See BRAKE CALIPER MOUNTING PLATE WEAR ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
  5. Install the spring and the support key using a brass punch and a hammer to drive the support key into place. See Figure .
  6. Install the caliper lock mounting bolt. See Figure . The boss on the bolt must fit into the circular cutout in the key. Tighten the caliper lock mounting bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  7. Remove the rubber cap or plug from the exposed brake pipe fitting end.
  8. Install 2 NEW copper brake hose gaskets. See Figure . Assemble the 2 NEW copper brake hose gaskets, and the brake hose bolt to the brake hose.
    9. NOTE: The hose must not be twisted. Make sure the hose is not in contact with any suspension component.
  9. With the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, install the brake hose to caliper bolt and 2 NEW copper brake hose gaskets to the brake caliper. Tighten the brake hose bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  10. Ensure that the brake hose does not make contact with any part of the suspension or the wheel. Check the hose in extreme right and left turn conditions. If the hose makes contact, remove the hose and correct the condition.
  11. Fill the brake master cylinder to the proper level. See MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR FILLING  under BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  12. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. See MANUAL BLEEDING  or PRESSURE BLEEDING  under BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  13. Install the tire and the wheel assembly.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
