Removal (Rear)

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
    CAUTION: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.
  2. Remove the brake caliper from the mounting bracket and support the caliper with heavy mechanic's wire or equivalent. See Fig 1 . Do not disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. See BRAKE CALIPER  .
  3. Remove the brake rotor. See BRAKE ROTOR  .
  4. Remove the bolts securing the splash shield and mounting plate.
  5. Remove the splash shield.
  6. Remove the remaining bolts securing the mounting plate.
  7. Remove the brake caliper mounting plate from the rear axle.
  8. Inspect the support rails for rust, corrosion, and wear.
  9. Clean the support rails with a wire brush.
  10. Inspect the brake caliper mounting plate for cracks or elongated bolt holes. Replace the mounting plate if necessary.
