.
- Did you review the brake warning system circuit description and perform SYMPTOMS - PARK BRAKE under TROUBLE SHOOTING? If so, go to next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- With the ignition switch on, observe the brake warning indicator and perform a brake warning system test by meeting each of the conditions
- Brake indicator should illuminate with the fluid level float manually held down, and turn off when float is up.
- Brake indicator should illuminate with the parking brake applied, and turn off when released.
- Brake indicator should illuminate with the ignition switch in START, and turn off when switch is in any other position.
Did the brake indicator illuminate and turn off for each condition? If so, go to INTERMITTENT under SYMPTOMS - HYDRAULIC BRAKE under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If not, go to next step.
- Disconnect the brake fluid level switch. Does the Red Brake indicator turn off? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 5 .
- Replace the brake fluid level switch, located in master cylinder reservoir. See MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step 11 .
- Disconnect the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) control module connector. Does the brake indicator turn off? If so, go to step 7 . If not, go to next step.
- Repair the short to ground in the brake indicator control circuit. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step 11 .
- Disconnect the park brake switch. Test the signal circuit of the park brake switch for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 11 . If not, go to next step.
- Test the park brake switch for a short to ground. Did you find the condition? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 10 .
- Replace the park brake switch. See PARK BRAKE WARNING LAMP SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step 11 .
- Replace the DRL control module. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to next step.
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, then system is okay. If system is not okay, go to step 3 .
