Rear Park Brake Cable: Removal

  1. Release the park brake. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. On vehicles with rear drum brakes, remove the shoes and the hardware. See DRUM BRAKE HARDWARE  .
  3. On vehicles with rear disc brakes, remove the park brake shoes and the hardware. See PARK BRAKE SHOES  .
  4. Remove the bolt and the park brake cable from the right rear backing plate.
  5. On vehicles with front-wheel drive, complete the following steps:
    • Remove the catalytic converter.
    • Remove the 3 nuts and the front floor forward heat shield.
    • Remove the 2 nuts and the front floor center heat shield.
    • Remove the 5 bolts and the fuel tank shield.
    • On vehicles with ABS, separate the ABS harness from the right rear clamp.
  6. On all vehicles, remove the 4 bolts from the 4 clamps.
  7. Remove the right rear park brake cable from the equalizer.
