Front Disc Brake Hardware: Removal

  1. Inspect the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir. If the brake fluid level is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, then not brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, then remove brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel.
  3. Remove the following components:
    • The caliper bolts
    • The inside pad wear indicator
    • The outside pad wear indicator, if equipped
    • The 2 brake pad retainers
    • The insulators
    • The pad insulators

  4. Remove the slide pins from the caliper bracket.
  5. Use a dull chisel and a hammer in order to remove the slide pin boots from the caliper bracket. Discard the slide pin boots. Inspect all hardware. See DISC BRAKE MOUNTING & HARDWARE INSPECTION - FRONT  under DISC BRAKES in ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
