Drum Brake Backing Plate: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel. Remove the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  . Remove the brake shoes. See BRAKE SHOES  . See Figure .
  2. Remove the wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDER  . Remove the bolt and parking brake cable from the backing plate. Remove the rear wheel hub. See appropriate REAR article in SUSPENSION. Remove the backing plate.
