Brake Shoes: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove tire and wheel. Remove the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  .
  2. Remove the upper return spring. See Figure . Remove the lower return spring.
  3. Remove the hold-down spring cup, hold-down spring and pin from the front shoe.
  4. Remove the anchor spring. Remove the front shoe with the adjuster lever.
  5. Remove the adjuster lever and the adjuster spring from the front shoe.
  6. Remove the hold-down spring cup, hold-down spring and pin from the rear shoe.
  7. Disconnect the park brake cable from the park brake lever. Remove the rear shoe.
  8. Remove the following components:
    • The 2 C-shaped park brake lever washers.
    • The park brake lever.
    • The adjuster strut.
  9. Separate the adjuster strut components.
