Rear Brake Caliper: Disassembly

- Remove the brake caliper. See REAR BRAKE CALIPER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to remove the caliper set ring. See Figure . Discard the caliper set ring. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to remove the piston boot. Discard the piston boot.
- Insert a shop cloth into the caliper in order to catch the piston. Apply compressed air to the caliper brake hose connector hole in order to remove the piston from the caliper. Use just enough air pressure to ease the piston out of the bore. You can damage a blown-out piston even with the padding.
- Use a flat-bladed tool to remove the piston seal. Discard the piston seal.
- Replace any corroded brake caliper bolts. Remove the bleeder valve cap and the bleeder valve from the brake caliper housing. Remove the slide pins and slide pin boots. Clean all the parts with clean, denatured alcohol. Dry all the parts with filtered, non-lubricated compressed air. Use filtered, non-lubricated compressed air in order to blow out all of the passages in the caliper housing and the bleeder valve.
