Front Brake Caliper: Disassembly

- Remove the caliper from the vehicle. See FRONT BRAKE CALIPER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove and discard the caliper set ring. See Figure . Remove and discard the piston boot.
- Insert a shop cloth into the caliper in order to catch the piston. Apply compressed air to the caliper brake hose connector hole in order to remove the piston from the caliper. Use just enough air pressure to ease the piston out of the bore. You can damage a blown-out piston even with the padding.
- Remove and discard the piston seal. Remove the bleeder valve cap. Remove the bleeder valve.
- Clean the following components in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner:
- The piston.
- The caliper bracket.
- The caliper housing.
- Dry the components and all the passages in the caliper housing using unlubricated, compressed air.
