Brake Hoses: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2003 GMC Envoy XL, 2003 GMC Envoy, and 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: DO NOT reuse the old metal/copper, gaskets. Use only NEW metal/copper, gaskets.
  1. Install the NEW metal/copper gaskets to the brake hose and bolt.
  2. Install the brake hose bolt to the brake caliper.
  3. Install the brake hose to brake caliper. Tighten the brake hose bolt. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install the brake hose retaining bolt to the frame. Tighten the brake hose bolt. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Remove the rubber cap or plug from the brake pipe fitting.
  6. Install the brake pipe to the brake hose. Tighten the brake pipe fitting. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS 
  7. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir. See MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR FILLING  under BLEEDING, FILLING & FLUSHING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  8. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. See MANUAL BLEEDING  under BLEEDING, FILLING & FLUSHING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Lower the vehicle.


NOTE: DO NOT reuse the old metal/copper gaskets. Use only NEW metal, copper, gaskets.
  1. Install the NEW metal/copper gaskets to the rear brake caliper bolt.
  2. Install the rear brake hose to the rear brake caliper. Tighten the rear brake bolt. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Remove the rubber plug and/or cap from the rear brake pipe fitting.
  4. Install the brake pipe to the brake hose.
  5. Using a backup wrench, install the rear brake pipe to the brake hose. Tighten the rear brake pipe fitting. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Install the brake pipe retaining bolt at the frame. Tighten the brake pipe retaining bolt. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS 
  7. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. See MANUAL BLEEDING  under BLEEDING, FILLING & FLUSHING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Lower the vehicle.
