Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative

  1. Verify a fault is present. Does the system operate normally? If so, go to INTERMITTENTS . If not, go to next step.
  2. Install a scan tool. Select the INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SPECIAL FUNCTIONS menu on the scan tool. Command the Brake Lamp ON. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  14.
  3. Select INPUT 1 from the BODY CONTROL MODULE DATA DISPLAY menu on the scan tool. Set the park brake while observing the PARK BRAKE status on the scan tool. Does the PARK BRAKE status change from RELEASED to SET? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  5.
  4. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch harness connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between the brake fluid level switch output circuit and the ground circuit of the brake fluid level switch. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? If so, go to step  11. If not, go to step  6.
  5. Disconnect the park brake switch harness connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between the park brake switch output circuit and a good ground. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? If so, go to step  10. If not go to step  7.
  6. Connect a fused jumper wire between the brake fluid level switch output circuit and a good ground. Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? If so, go to step  8. If not, go to step  9.
  7. Test park brake switch output circuit for an open between the park brake switch and the BCM. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  15. If not, go to step  12.
  8. Repair the open in the ground circuit of the brake fluid level switch. When repair is complete go to step  15.
  9. Test the brake fluid level switch input circuit for an open. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  15. If not, go to step  13.
  10. Replace the park brake switch and go to step  15.
  11. Replace the brake fluid level switch and go to step  15.
  12. Replace the BCM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Go to step  15.
  13. Replace the EBCM. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate ANTI-LOCK article. Use the scan tool to perform the TIRE SIZE CALIBRATION procedure. Go to step  15.
  14. Replace the instrument panel cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Go to next step.
  15. Verify the system is repaired. Does the system operate normally? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step  2.
