Wheel Cylinders: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels. Clean all dirt and foreign material from wheel cylinder brake pipe fitting and bleeder valve.
  2. Remove brake drum and brake pipe nut. Install a cap over the end of brake pipe to prevent brake fluid loss and/or brake fluid contamination.
  3. Remove wheel cylinder bolts. Spread brake shoes apart. Remove wheel cylinder. Clean old sealant from backing plate where wheel cylinder was installed. Clean sealant from wheel cylinder if reusing wheel cylinder.
