Power Brake Booster: Removal

  1. Disconnect and remove battery. Remove and position aside the underhood electrical center. Remove battery box.
  2. Disconnect coolant surge hose from surge tank and position aside. Remove master cylinder mounting nuts. DO NOT disconnect brake pipes from master cylinder.
  3. Carefully pull master cylinder away from vacuum booster and position aside.
  4. Disconnect vacuum booster check valve and hose assembly from booster.
  5. Remove Transaxle Control Module (TCM) and position over engine. Remove brake modulator assembly, if equipped.
  6. Remove brake modulator valve bracket, if equipped. Remove brake booster push rod-to-brake pedal retaining clip. Remove foam washer from brake pedal assembly.
  7. Remove brake booster mounting nuts. Ensure foam insulator on mounting surface of brake booster withdraws with booster. Disengage brake booster from front of dash and brake pedal bracket. Maneuver booster toward center of vehicle in order to ease removal.
