- Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels.
- Relieve cable tension from parking brake at the equalizer. There should be no tension on parking brake cables, so that brake shoes are positioned only by the adjuster strut.
- Remove rear drums. Set the Drum-To-Brake Shoe Clearance Gauge (J-21177-A) so that gauge contacts the inside diameter of the drum at the widest point.
- Position gauge over the shoes at the widest point. Turn adjuster nut until shoes just contact the gauge. Repeat procedure for the other side of rear brake assembly.
- Install rear drums. Install rear wheels. Adjust parking brake cable system. See PARKING BRAKE . Lower vehicle.
