Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative

  1. Did you perform the hydraulic brake diagnostics? If so, go to next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Turn OFF ignition. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Observe the Red brake indicator. Does the Red brake indicator illuminate briefly during the displays test? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  11 .
  3. Apply park brake. Does the Red brake indicator illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  5 .
  4. Turn OFF the ignition. Release park brake. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch and the ground circuit of the brake fluid level switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Does the Red brake indicator illuminate? If so, go to step  10 . If not, go to step  7 .
  5. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the park brake switch. Connect the 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the park brake switch and the good ground. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Does the Red brake indicator illuminate? If so, go to step  9 . If not, go to next step.
  6. Test the signal circuit of the park brake switch for the high resistance or a open. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  15 . If not, go to step  11 .
  7. Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a high resistance or a open. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  15 . If not, go to next step.
  8. Test the ground circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a high resistance or an open circuit. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  15 . If not, go to step  11 .
  9. Inspect for poor case ground or poor connections at the harness connector of the park brake switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  15 . If not, go to step  12 .
  10. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the brake fluid level switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  15 . If not, go to step  13 .
  11. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  15 . If not, go to step  14 .
  12. Replace the park brake switch. See PARK BRAKE WARNING LAMP SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  15 .
  13. Replace the brake fluid level switch. See MASTER CYLINDER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  15 .
  14. Replace the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See INSTRUMENT PANEL, GAGES & CONSOLE in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs are complete, go to next step.
  15. Operate the vehicle in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? System okay. If not, go to step  2 .
