Brake Warning Indicator Always On

  1. Did you perform the hydraulic brake diagnostic system check? If so, go to next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Inspect the brake fluid level. Is the brake fluid level okay? If so, go to next step. If not go to BRAKE FLUID LOSS  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  3. Turn ignition ON, with engine OFF. Release parking brake. With a scan tool, observe the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter in the instrument panel cluster data list. Does the scan tool indicate that the park brake parameter is OFF? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  5 .
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Brake Fluid Level parameter in the Instrument Panel Cluster data list. Does the scan tool indicate that the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL parameter is okay? If so, condition is intermittent, check for poor or loose connections. If not, go to step  6 .
  5. Turn OFF ignition. Disconnect the park brake switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter. Does the scan tool indicate that the Park Brake Switch parameter is OFF? Then go to step  9 . If not, go to step  7 .
  6. Turn OFF ignition. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL parameter. Does the scan tool indicate that the Brake Fluid Level parameter is okay? If so, go to step  10 . If not, go to step  8 .
  7. Test the signal circuit of the park brake switch for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  15 . If not, go to step  11 .
  8. Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  15 . If not, go to step  11 .
  9. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the park brake switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 15 . If not, go to step  12 .
  10. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the brake fluid level switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  15 . If not, go to step  14 .
  11. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument panel (IPC). Did you find and correct the condition? Then go to last step. If not, go to step  14 .
  12. Replace the park brake switch. See PARK BRAKE WARNING LAMP SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  15 .
  13. Replace the brake fluid level switch. See MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  15 .
  14. Replace instrument cluster (IPC). See INSTRUMENT PANEL, GAGES & CONSOLE in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs are complete, go to next step.
  15. Operate system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? Then system is okay. If not, go to step  2 .
