Thermostat Housing Cover: Removal

  1. Remove retaining bolt in front of shield. Lift-up on front of shield. Lift shield off rear bracket. Remove upper intake manifold sight shield.
  2. Disconnect battery negative cable. Drain engine coolant. See DRAINING & REFILLING COOLING SYSTEM . Remove upper fan shroud. See FAN SHROUD . Remove drive belt.
  3. Disconnect A/C compressor clutch electrical connector. Disconnect A/C cutout switch electrical connector. Remove A/C compressor mounting bolts. Move A/C compressor with hoses attached to right side of engine compartment.
  4. Remove nut retaining generator positive cable to generator. Remove positive cable from generator. Remove clip holding positive cable to engine front cover. Remove bolt retaining battery positive cable junction block to power steering pump.
  5. Move generator positive cable and junction block bracket aside. Disconnect generator electrical connector. Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
  6. Remove power steering pump mounting bracket and secure to side. Do not remove power steering pump from bracket. The hoses and battery cables can remain on power steering pump.
  7. Remove bolts retaining fuel bleed valve and PCV oil separator bracket from generator mounting bracket. Remove heater outlet hose bracket bolt from generator bracket. Remove ribbed idler pulley. Remove generator mounting bracket and secure to side. The generator does not require removal. The drive belt tensioner does not require removal.
  8. Remove oil fill tube. Remove water outlet tube.
  9. Remove bolt retaining heater pipe to fuel filter assembly. Remove bolt retaining heater pipe to thermostat housing crossover. Remove heater pipe with O-ring seal from crossover.
  10. Remove hose and clamp from turbocharger outlet coolant pipe to thermostat bypass pipe. Remove fuel line bracket from thermostat housing crossover. Remove cooling fan pulley.
  11. Remove 2 thermostat housing crossover bolts and 2 nuts from left cylinder head. Remove 2 thermostat housing crossover bolts and 2 nuts from right cylinder head. Remove bypass pipe to water pump bolts. Remove thermostat housing crossover with bypass pipe. Remove bypass pipe to water pump O-ring. Remove bypass pipe from thermostat housing crossover. Remove O-ring from bypass pipe.
