Oil Pan: Installation

- Remove oil level sensor and retaining clip. Clean lower oil pan. Remove any sludge or other deposits. Clean lower oil pan mating surface. Inspect lower oil pan for dents or distortion.
- Inspect lower oil pan mating surface for damage. Replace lower oil pan if any damage is found. Install oil level sensor and retaining clip. Install oil level sensor bolt.
- Apply a 1/8" (2 mm) wide bead of Sealant (GM 97720043) to lower oil pan mating surface. Install lower oil pan. Install lower oil pan bolts and nuts.
- Connect oil level sensor and install clip. Install crossbar, oil pan skid plate, oil filter, and oil pan drain plug. Lower vehicle. Fill engine with oil.
- Apply a 1/8" (2 mm) wide bead of Sealant (GM 97720043) to upper oil pan mating surfaces. Apply a 1/8" (2 mm) wide bead of sealant to engine flywheel housing sealing surface.
- Install upper oil pan to engine block. Ensure oil level indicator tube is installed into upper oil pan. Install upper oil pan bolts and any brackets.
- Install engine flywheel housing to upper oil pan bolts denoted by Black triangles. Install bolts and battery positive and negative cable bracket to front of upper oil pan.
- Install nut and battery positive and negative cable bracket from right side of upper oil pan. Install engine flywheel. See ENGINE FLYWHEEL . Install lower oil pan.
- Install transmission. See appropriate TRANSMISSIONS article. On 4WD models, install front differential carrier assembly. See appropriate FRONT AXLE article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
- On 2WD models, connect relay rod to pitman arm and idler arm. Lower vehicle. Install oil level indicator. Fill engine with oil.
