Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2003 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If SIR Diagnostic System Check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR Diagnostic System Check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Install a scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, request PPS to flash DTC's. See PASSENGER PRESENCE FLASH CODE PROCEDURE . If PPS indicates DTC 064 is current, go to next step. If DTC 064 is not current, go to step 13.
- If scan tool indicates that DTC B0098 is current, go to DTC B0098 . If DTC B0098 is not current, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PPS module connector. Inspect PPS terminals and connector for signs of damage or corrosion. If damage or corrosion are found, go to next step. If damage or corrosion are not found, go to step 6.
- If PPS module terminals are damaged, replace PPS. See PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM (PPS) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 13. If PPS connector is damaged, replace connector. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step 13.
- Disconnect main seat harness connector, located under passenger front seat. Inspect both halves of connector for corrosion or damage. If connector is damaged, replace connector. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step 13. If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect SDM connector. See Figure. If SDM connector terminals are damaged or corroded, replace connector. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step 13. If SDM connector is okay, go to next step.NOTE: Use Digital Multimeter (J-39200) and Connector Test Adapter Kit (J-35616-A) or Flat WIre Probe Adapter Kit (J-42675) when performing electrical tests.
- Inspect PPS serial data circuit for a short to ground, an open or a high resistance. If a short to ground, an open or a high resistance is found and corrected, go to step 13. If a short to ground, an open or a high resistance is not found and corrected, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Inspect PPS serial data circuit for a short to voltage. If a short to voltage is found and corrected, go to step 13. If a short to voltage is not found and corrected, go to next step.
- Replace PPS. See PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM (PPS) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all SIR and PPS components. Verify all components and connectors are properly mounted and connected. Using scan tool, clear all SIR and PPS DTC's. Rezero PPS. See PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM REZEROING PROCEDURE under DIAGNOSTICS. Road test vehicle, then check for DTC's. If DTC's are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC's are not retrieved, system is okay.
- Replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
If DTC's are retrieved, go to step 2. If DTC's are not retrieved, system is okay.
