Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See ZONE 3  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. Remove driver-side air bag module. See AIR BAG MODULES . Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL . Remove 3 screws from lower steering column cover and remove lower cover. See Fig 1. Disconnect SIR coil assembly connectors. Raise upper steering column cover. Release 3 SIR coil assembly retaining claws. See Fig 2. Remove SIR coil assembly.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. If necessary, center SIR coil assembly. See CENTERING SIR COIL ASSEMBLY  under ADJUSTMENTS. Ensure turn signal switch is in neutral position to prevent damage to turn signal switch pin. Tighten steering wheel nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Activate air bag system. See ZONE 3  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
