Heated Oxygen Sensor: Installation

- A special anti-seize compound is used on the oxygen sensor threads. The compound consists of a liquid graphite and glass beads. The graphite will burn away, but the glass beads will remain, making the sensor easier to remove. New sensors will have the compound applied to the threads.
- If a sensor is removed and is to be reinstalled, the threads must have an anti-seize compound applied before installation. Coat the threads of the HO2S with Anti-Seize Compound (12377953), if necessary.
- Install the HO2S and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect HO2S harness connector. Lower vehicle, if necessary.
NOTE:
A special anti-seize compound is used on the oxygen sensor threads. New service sensors should already have the compound applied to the threads. Coat the threads of a reused sensor with anti-seize compound P/N 5613695 or equivalent.
- Install the rear oxygen sensor (1) in the rear exhaust manifold. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle. Connect the electrical connector to the HO2S. Connect the HO2S electrical connector tab to the bracket. Install the HO2S electrical connector retainer. Install the fuel injection sight shield.
