Removal & Installation (Bi-Fuel)

CAUTION:
Natural gas is highly flammable. In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, keep sparks, flames, and smoking materials away from the vehicle while you perform the bi-fuel system service.
CAUTION:
Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
NOTE:
Numbers in parenthesis refer to numbers in illustrations.
- Relieve the bi-fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE under FUEL SYSTEMS. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the screws (1) that retain the fuel filler door and remove the fuel filler door. See Fig 1. Remove the fill line fitting (1) from the fill valve. See Fig 2. Remove the fill valve cover from the mounting plate. Remove the fill valve jam nut (2).
- Remove the fill valve from the mounting plate (2). See Fig 1.
- Install the fill line fitting to the fill valve using a NEW "O" ring. Tighten the fill line fitting. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Prime the CNG fuel system by cycling the ignition ON and OFF several times. Start the engine and use Ultrasonic Leak Detector (J 45878) in order to inspect for bi-fuel system leaks at each serviced fitting.
NOTE:
Before installation, lubricate "O" ring with petroleum jelly or equivalent.
