Fuel Tank Bracket & Mounting: Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Sierra and 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Natural gas is stored under high pressure. If a leak occurs, the high pressure could cause a personal injury. In order to prevent Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel leaks, always replace the CNG fuel system "O" rings during service.
- Position the CNG fuel tank mounting plate onto the vehicle. Install the tank mounting plate to the vehicle frame with new bolts and nuts. Tighten the nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Do not hold the HPR at the cover hex flange. As required, wedge a wrench between the HPR and the tank frame in order to keep the HPR from spinning in the bracket. Install the HPR assembly to the mounting bracket. Install the HPR mounting nut and washer. Tighten the nut to specification.
- Install the filter spring, filter and seal into the HPR inlet port. Install the HPR fuel inlet line fitting with a new "O" ring. Lubricate the "O" ring with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line fitting to specification.
- Pull the HPR coolant hoses through the tank mounting frame. Connect the HPR coolant hoses to the HPR. Install the HPR fuel outlet line with a new "O" ring. Lubricate the "O" ring with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line fitting to specification.
- Install the fuel filter/fuel line assembly into the vehicle. Install the fuel filter bracket mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. Install the HPR fuel inlet line with a new "O" ring. Lubricate the "O" ring with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line fitting to specification.
- Install the fuel filter inlet line with a new "O" ring. Lubricate the "O" ring with petroleum jelly. Tighten the fuel line fitting to specification. Install the fuel line mounting clips. Tighten the check valve fuel line mounting clip bolt to specification.
- Install the CNG fuel tank. See FUEL TANK . Fill the cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING under COOLING SYSTEM.
- Fill the CNG fuel system. Start the engine and use Combustible Gas Detector in order to inspect for CNG fuel system leaks at each serviced fitting.
Position the CNG fuel tank mounting frame into the bed using NEW mounting bolts. Raise and support the vehicle. Install the frame support brackets using NEW nuts. See Fig 1 . Tighten the nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the exhaust system heat shields and bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. Install the CNG fuel tank. See FUEL TANK .
