Removal (4.2L)

  1. Relieve the fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Remove throttle body assembly. See THROTTLE BODY . Remove Powertrain Control Module (PCM) retaining bolts and nuts. See Figure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS.
  2. Remove the PCM mounting studs and position the PCM out of the way. See Figure.
  3. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector (1). See Fig 1.
  4. Disconnect the fuel feed (1) and fuel return (2) pipes from the fuel rail. See Fig 2. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS (4.2L) .
  5. Disconnect the integral clip (3) from the wire harness bracket. See Fig 2.
  6. Remove the engine wire harness bracket bolt
  7. Position the engine electrical wire harness bracket with wires attached out of the way. See Fig 3.
  8. Disconnect the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector. See Fig 4.
  9. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose from the intake manifold. See Fig 5.
  10. Disconnect the vacuum brake booster hose at the intake manifold. See Fig 6.
  11. Remove the generator. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in ELECTRICAL.
    CAUTION: The intake manifold bolts are captured within the intake manifold.
  12. Do not attempt to remove the bolts from the intake manifold.
  13. Loosen the intake manifold bolts.
  14. Remove the intake manifold. See Fig 7.
