Removal (2.2L)

NOTE: It may not be necessary to raise and support vehicle when replacing ignition coil(s) on some 2.2L models.
NOTE: Numbers in parenthesis in the following procedure refer to numbers in illustration.

Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Reference mark spark plug wires at ignition coil(s) for reassembly. Slightly twist spark plug wires at ignition coil(s). Remove spark plug wires (1) at ignition coil(s) by pulling on the wire boot. See Fig 1. Disconnect ignition control module harness connectors. Remove 2 ignition coil retaining bolts from each coil (2). Remove ignition coil(s) from ignition control module.
