Removal Procedure

- Remove the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Replacement .
- Remove the bolts that secure the lifter guides.
Important: Ensure that the lifter guides are identified so they can be installed in their original location and orientation.
- Remove the lifter guides.
- Remove the valve lifters from the lifter bore.
- Inspect the valve lifter for the following conditions:
- Lifter wear
- Lifter scuffing
- Loose roller shaft
- Inspect the valve lifter bore in the engine block for wear and scuffing.
- Inspect the roller for freedom of movement.
- Inspect the roller surface for flat spots and pitting.
- Inspect the valve lifters and the valve lifter guide assemblies. Refer to VALVE LIFTERS AND GUIDES CLEANING AND INSPECTION .
- If a valve lifter requires replacement inspect the camshaft. Refer to CAMSHAFT AND BEARINGS CLEANING AND INSPECTION .
