Valve Clearance Adjustment

  1. Turn the crankshaft so the related rocker arm, where the valve clearance is to be adjusted, is fully pushed down.
  2. Install J 45785-1  onto the spark plug tube.

    Important:  To avoid unlocking the valve spring keeper, do not allow clearance between the valve retainer and J 45785-1  .

  3. Operate the lever on J 45785  so the tool seat surface comes to contact with the valve retainer and lock them with the set screw.
  4. Lock the set screw on the spark plug tube side of J 45785  .

  5. Rotate the crankshaft so the camshaft is positioned as shown.

  6. Using J 45785  , remove the valve adjusting shim as follows:
  7. Lift the rocker arm and remove the valve adjusting shim.
