Removal Procedure

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the transaxle assembly. Refer to the following:
- REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - A/T (AWD) for all wheel drive automatic transaxle
- REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - A/T (FWD) for 4-speed automatic transaxle
- MANUAL TRANSMISSION - MK5 for 5-speed manual transaxle
- MANUAL TRANSMISSION - MTN for 6-speed manual transaxle
- If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the clutch and pressure plate. Refer to CLUTCH ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the 8 flywheel retaining bolts.
- Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
- Clean any grease or dirt from the crankshaft flange outer surface using a suitable solvent.
